FAQ

How do you summon the Moon Lord without the pillars?
Craft a Celestial Sigil — made from 12 of each Celestial Pillar fragment (Solar, Vortex, Nebula, Stardust) at an Ancient Manipulator. Using it starts a 12-second summon countdown instead of making you re-clear the pillars.
What does the Moon Lord drop?
Guaranteed Luminite ore — the raw material for the four endgame armor sets — plus one weapon from a nine-item pool that includes Meowmere and Star Wrath (both needed for the Zenith), the Celebration Mk2, and the S.D.M.G. Expert adds a Gravity Globe to the Treasure Bag.
Can you skip the Lunar Events?
No — the only road to the Moon Lord runs through the Lunatic Cultist and the four Celestial Pillars. The Cultist fight begins the moment you kill the four cultists channeling at the Dungeon entrance after Golem falls.

How do you summon the Moon Lord?

Two routes, both gated behind Golem. The natural path: kill the Lunatic Cultist — spawned by killing the cultists at the Dungeon entrance post-Golem — which triggers the Lunar Events: four Celestial Pillars (Solar, Vortex, Nebula, Stardust) land across the map, each shielded until you kill 100 of its themed mobs (150 in Expert/Master). Destroy the fourth pillar and the Moon Lord descends 60 seconds later — enough time to heal, rebuff, and get to your arena.

The shortcut: after Golem, craft a Celestial Sigil at the Ancient Manipulator from 12 of each pillar fragment — using it starts a 12-second countdown and skips the pillar re-clear on repeat fights. First kill is always via the pillars; the sigil is for farming.

What are the Moon Lord’s stats and phases?

Stat Classic Expert Master
Total HP 145,000 217,500 277,311
Structure Two hand eyes + forehead eye → core Same Same

The fight is a target-priority puzzle. Each hand eye and the forehead eye must be destroyed to expose the chest core; killed eyes become True Eyes of Cthulhu — invulnerable minions that keep shooting until the fight ends. Key attacks to respect:

  • Phantasmal Deathray — the forehead eye’s screen-sweeping beam. It pierces everything and is the run-ender; fly above or behind the skull when it charges.
  • Phantasmal Spheres / Bolts / Eyes — homing projectile spam from hands and mouth.
  • Moon Leech Clots — in Expert/Master, touching these leeches life back to the boss; kill them before they land.

The winning shape is mobility: a Fishron or Empress-tier mobility loadout (Soaring Insignia-tier flight, asphalt or skybridge runway) and an endgame weapon — Daybreak, Vortex Beater, Nebula-tier magic, or strong summons. If you want the deeper gear-by-stage breakdown, our class setups chart ends at exactly this fight.

What does the Moon Lord drop?

Drop Chance Notes
Luminite ×70–90 100% The endgame ore — Solar/Vortex/Nebula/Stardust armor sets
One of 9 weapons ~11% each Meowmere, Star Wrath, Terrarian, S.D.M.G., Celebration Mk2, Last Prism, Lunar Flare, Rainbow Crystal Staff, Lunar Portal Staff
Gravity Globe Expert 100% (bag) Gravity-flip accessory
Suspicious Looking Tentacle Expert (bag) Light pet
Moon Lord Relic + pet Master Trophy + pet
Portal Gun / coins / potions Various —

The headline: Meowmere and Star Wrath are both Zenith ingredients, so the Moon Lord is a farm, not a one-and-done. Luminite smelts into the four class armor sets that define post-game builds, and the full boss order page ends here — the last hard gate in a run.
