FAQ

Why is Plantera not spawning?
Bulbs only generate after all three mechanical bosses — The Twins, The Destroyer, and Skeletron Prime — have each been defeated at least once in that world. They then grow slowly over time on jungle grass; give it a day or two of in-game time and re-check the deeper jungle.
What happens if Plantera leaves the jungle?
She enrages — her speed and damage spike dramatically and she becomes nearly unwinnable for normal gear. Fight her in an arena dug inside the Underground Jungle, never on the surface.
What does Plantera drop the first time?
In Classic mode the first kill always awards the Grenade Launcher plus a stack of Rocket I ammo, alongside the guaranteed Temple Key — afterwards each of her eight weapons drops at equal 12.5% chance.

How do you summon Plantera?

Plantera has no summoning item — instead, pink Plantera’s Bulbs grow on jungle grass in the Underground Jungle, and breaking one with any pickaxe or weapon summons her immediately. The bulbs only begin spawning after all three mechanical bosses (The Twins, The Destroyer, Skeletron Prime) have been defeated in that world, and they take in-game time to grow — expect a slow spread through the deeper jungle over a day or two.

Two rules decide the fight before it starts. First, Plantera enrages if she is lured out of the Underground Jungle or above the surface — her speed and damage jump to lethal levels, so the arena must stay underground and in-biome. Second, the fight happens where you break the bulb, so scout the bulb, then build the arena next to it rather than breaking it on sight.

What are Plantera’s stats and phases?

Stat Classic Expert Master
Max HP 30,000 42,000 53,550
Contact damage (P1) 50 100 150
Seed / Poison Seed / Thorn Ball 44 / 54 / 62 76 / 96 / 108 114 / 144 / 162
Defense 36 → 10 in phase 2 Same Same

Phase 1 (above 50% HP): she chases you on hooking vines through solid blocks and lobs three projectile types — Seeds, Poison Seeds (50%/100% chance to poison), and bouncing Thorn Balls. Phase 2 (below 50%): she sheds the petals, speeds up, contact damage rises to 70/140/210, and she spawns Plantera’s Tentacles that latch onto you. Her defense drops to 10 in phase 2 — a good burst window if you can manage the chaos.

The classic strategy is a long dug-out tunnel arena: a wide horizontal corridor with a loop or a teleport back-door, platforms for verticality, campfires and heart lanterns, and enough open space that Thorn Balls bounce themselves out of relevance. Chlorophyte or Hallowed-tier armor is the honest baseline; ranged and magic builds (Megashark, Chlorophyte Shotbow, Golden Shower spam) have the easiest time keeping her at a distance.

On Skyblock-type worlds without a Jungle Temple she additionally drops 500–600 Lihzahrd Bricks, 1,200–1,500 Forbidden walls, a Lihzahrd Altar, and the Picksaw — the same 1.4.5 catch-up system covered in the Skyblock seed guide.

What does beating Plantera unlock?

The Temple Key opens the Jungle Temple and Golem’s arena — the last door before the endgame chain (Cultist → Pillars → Moon Lord). Her kill also slows the Corruption/Crimson/Hallow spread by half world-wide and unlocks new NPC inventory lines (the Witch Doctor’s best stock). In the boss order she sits exactly mid-Hardmode: the gear check that gates the endgame.
