FAQ

Does Terraria have crossplay?
Not yet — Terraria has no cross-platform play today. It's coming in update 1.4.6 'Pulling It All Together' Phase One, which as of the September 2026 State of the Game is in 'finishing touches' and approaching platform submission.
When does Terraria crossplay release?
No date announced. The gating step is platform parity: every platform must be on the 1.4.5.7+ line first — console and mobile ports were 'very soon' per the September 2026 State of the Game — then 1.4.6 Phase One goes through platform certification before release.
Will crossplay work between all platforms?
That detail is exactly what's unpublished — Re-Logic has announced the two-phase rollout and the 1.4.6 Phase One timing but not which platform combinations or steps Phase One will support. This page updates with each State of the Game.

Does Terraria have cross-play?

Not today — PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and mobile players all live on separate islands. That changes with update 1.4.6, officially titled “Pulling It All Together,” which Re-Logic structured as a two-phase rollout announced in February 2026. Cross-play is Phase One.

This is one of the most-requested features in the game’s 15-year run — and the engineering tells you why it took this long: the platforms ran staggered version lines for years, so the prerequisite work was getting every edition to content parity first.

What is the current status?

As of the September 2026 State of the Game (Re-Logic’s monthly dev blog on the official forums):

  • Phase One is in “finishing touches” — feature-complete internally.
  • Submission is “in the near future” — meaning platform certification, not release. Console cert adds its own weeks.
  • The blocker is version parity — every platform needs to be on the 1.4.5.7+ line; the console/mobile catch-up to match PC’s 1.4.5.8-era builds was described as “very soon.”
  • Phase Two follows after Phase One, and Re-Logic noted smaller updates may land between the two phases.

What is not public yet: which specific platform combinations Phase One enables, the exact connect flow (whether it leans on dedicated servers, invites, or platform friends lists), and a release date. Any site claiming a confirmed cross-play date is guessing.

How will cross-play probably work?

Only the scaffolding is visible so far. The plausible shape, based on how Terraria multiplayer works today: dedicated servers (see the server commands page for how hosting works) and host-and-play sessions are the obvious bridges between ecosystems — running your own server is likely to be the most reliable cross-platform route on day one, which is worth knowing before the launch rush. We will update this page the moment Re-Logic publishes the actual mechanism.

What about mods and cross-play?

Separate timeline: tModLoader’s 1.4.5 port is still in development — Re-Logic has said the final version “will take many months,” with another progress update expected around October 2026. Modded multiplayer follows its own versioning (both sides need matching tModLoader builds), which is independent of the vanilla cross-play work. The 1.4.5 update page covers what modders are waiting to catch up to, and the boss order page is what your cross-platform friends will need first.
